Sister Madly’s autumn preparation has been skittled by a lung infection and the mare won’t race again until the spring.
Trainer John Sadler had been preparing the Redoute’s Choice five-year-old for Group One sprint features such as the Lightning Stakes or Oakleigh Plate, William Reid Stakes and the upcoming Sportingbet Classic.
The half-sister to retired superstar Hong Kong sprinter Silent Witness is raced by Segenhoe Thoroughbreds managed by Kevin Maloney.
She hasn’t started since her biggest win in the Group Two Salinger Stakes (1200m) on Derby Day at Flemington last spring.
“The good news for us is that Kevin wants to bring her back and run her in the spring,” Sadler said.
“She can go to the paddock and have a nice spell and get all the anti-biotics that have been pumped into her out of her and then we can start getting her ready for the spring.
Segenhoe Thoroughbreds paid $1 million for Sister Madly, formerly with Anthony Cummings, at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale last June and she has had four Group starts for Sadler for two wins, two seconds and $380,000 prizemoney.
Although three-times Group One placed from 17 starts, she has yet to win at the highest level.
Sister Madly has won four races and has been Group One placed three times when second to More Joyous in the 2009 Flight Stakes, third to Rostova in the 2010 Sportingbet Classic and runner-up to Sepoy in the Manikato Stakes last spring.
